Dear Tribal Members, Reservation Residents and Tribal Employees,

A few weeks ago I ended my update with, “We know that case numbers go down in places where everyone comes together and uses their masks, keeps social distancing, and avoids travel and contacts. We can do the same thing here.”

I am happy to say together we are doing it! With our immediate response and contact tracing, plus community commitment to masking, social distancing and protecting each other, we have had no new positives in Medical Clinic testing of community members and employees in the past 7 days.

We are headed in the right direction, but it does not mean that we can relax now. Continually following all the rules and making good decisions is hard work, but both are necessary to keep our families and community safe from this virus. We have been doing a good job so far in containing the spread and it is very important that we keep it up by:

Too much alone time can be very difficult, so let’s help take care of each other - check on elders and family members who live alone. If you visit family and friends to take advantage of this summer weather, please social distance outside. And always remember to practice six (6) feet distancing and wear your mask!

As families are looking ahead at fall, there is a growing sense of uncertainty about the coming school year. To help get the school year off to a good start, we will be distributing the back to school gift cards as well as Chromebooks for all K-12 students. The Education and Social Services Departments have been working closely with the La Conner Schools on ways to support our kids. More information will be coming soon.

As we enjoy these last days of summer, please wear your mask, stay safe, stay healthy and let’s take care of one another.
